Change Maker Moveathon
Our moveathon was a giant success. Lots of people came and moved with us and we did 7 whole laps of Elsternwick Lake. $1491 was raised and we succeeded our goal by $491. All the money we raised went to the Australian Youth Climate Coalition. It was nerve racking before our moveathon, worrying if anyone would come or if we were prepared enough. But in the end, we realised that even if no one turned up (don't worry they did), we put time and effort into it and we deserve to be proud of ourselves.
We chose a moveathon because we wanted to do something outside, energetic and inclusive. A moveathon checks all those boxes. Pretty much all the work was put in behind the scenes where we wrote emails, social media posts and organised the entire thing. We wrote emails to AYCC and they responded to us with the response we wished for, “Yes you can donate to us!” We also wrote posts for social media and our families. To make our gofundme page we had to make countless posts and captions for the page but it was definitely worth the end outcome.
We put so much work into this moveathon and the outcome was fantastic. The soap stall run by 2 of our fellow changemakers, Seed, was also awesome and they raised an extra $42 for the Australian Youth Climate Coalition.
We also thank AYCC for letting us fundraise for them and giving us these awesome t-shirts. We decided to fundraise for AYCC because they are a spectacular organisation, passionate about solving the problems to stop our rising climate and it’s run by youths!!! AYCC and other climate change organisations inspired us to run the moveathon we ran and we decided that the donations we collect should go to AYCC as they provide for our future. We also fundraised for AYCC because it is our future and we want to have a say in what happens too!
At our moveathon, as well as moving, we chanted many different chants, but this was probably our favourite.
“THERE’S NO PLANET B!”
We also made placards especially for the event saying various different climate change related phrases. Here are some examples:
